“My work is not a thing in itself, but rather the imprint or result of the dialogue that I have with the mediums involved; and that such dialogue is nurtured by everything that surrounds me. I became more curious about the intersection between scientific research, philosophy and religion, and more aware of the importance of a multidisciplinary environment that forms when diverse ways of perception come together.
Furthermore, I am interested in the juncture between different forms of art and the activities that shape our everyday experience. I believe that when we give our attention and care to the objects, people, and environments that surround us, we are participating in an act of creating meaning. Through this act, we can break down the lines between art and the everyday experience, which has the potential to alter our perceptions of reality.
I believe that the work is the record of an active interplay between me, the materials, the ideas and emotions that I carry, and the ones that the materials themselves carry with them. It is a craft born out of listening to and observing the relationships among things, rather than dictating what they ought to be. It is a language that holds multiple meanings in one place, blurring the line between the magical and the mundane, the emotional and the rational, the psychological and the physical, the artificial and the natural.
My hope is that the work opens the door to a place that we all share where wonder and curiosity are the natural state of being. Like a bicycle meant to take you on a journey rather than to be broken down into parts, I hope my work can be experienced in the same way that we listen to the song of a bird or the sound of a new word; like wandering into a forest, in the threshold between past and future. Perhaps somewhere in this journey one might become more sensitive to the constraining barriers of our often-static idea of reality, becoming aware of the multiple levels of experience that are constantly unraveling and in which we are all entangled. To see time and the things that we do as parts of an ever changing process of relations rather than solid objects on to themselves.
To imagine new ways of thinking, creating, and moving through the world that are more in tune with the natural process of nature, both physically and metaphorically; to participating in interdisciplinary practices; to further understanding the ideological and sensorial frameworks that dictate our relationships to our environment and to other people; and to searching for the threads that weave the fabric of experience, which can only be found when in unison with nature. It is within these frameworks that possibilities for new interpretations of the world can emerge.” - Amadeo Morelos
